The end of Covid-19 restrictions in England today could mean anything but Freedom for cancer patients and their families.
For many their cancer, or their treatment for cancer, means even two doses of a vaccine leaves them less protected from serious illness resulting from Covid than the general public. Today, things potentially become more restrictive for those with cancer, rather than less.
While the public have been wearing masks and keeping their distance, people with cancer have felt reassured and more able to go out and meet friends and family. As large numbers of people people remove their masks and public places become busier, people with cancer will feel they have to stop their normal activities. Things like using public transport will become a real source of worry.
Hope for Tomorrow has joined 40 other cancer charities and organisations, speaking as ‘One Cancer Voice’, in signing an open letter to the public. This letter, published by The Observer urges people to continue socially distancing and mask-wearing to protect our most vulnerable communities.

“It’s clear that we must plan for a future with Covid-19. Economic recovery is vital for our public health services and the end to restrictions in England plays a part in that recovery. Whist we recognise and respect individual choices and decisions, we urge the public to continue to consider the most vulnerable within our communities”
