Over £1,200 raised thanks to a ‘Cuppa’ on board Caron

In a heart-warming display of support, members of the mobile cancer care unit team and the community at East Kent NHS Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, recently organized and held their own Cuppa for Cancer Care event in aid of raising funds for Hope for Tomorrow. We’re pleased to share that they have raised an impressive £1,235.80!

The Cuppa for Cancer Care event was held on board the trust’s own mobile cancer care unit, Caron, and was thanks to the team including Leigh, Pat, Lisa, Denis and Bryan. Some of whom attended the unit at its treatment location in Dover on a non-working day to see the event through.

Working together, they fulfilled the warm, inviting atmosphere patients so often note on board a Hope for Tomorrow mobile unit, and invited patients and their loved ones to gather, enjoy a ‘Cuppa’ and savour some delicious homemade treats while contributing to the cause that holds so much significance for both patients as the ones making use of the service, but also for the staff who spend their days delivering treatment on board Caron.

In addition to the sale of delicious baked goods, staff members organized a well-curated raffle which added an element of excitement and additional fundraising to their event; encouraging hospital staff, patients, and members of the local community to buy a ticket and try their luck, with all funds raised going to support the charity supplying the very unit on which they were stood. We heard there were some fantastic prizes up for grabs. Our thanks to all who supplied them.

In the simple act of sharing a cuppa and a slice of cake, the mobile cancer care unit team and their supporters demonstrated that it is these gestures that can lead to significant and meaningful contributions to our work, helping to make an incredible difference with an event like this. Leigh Carvill,  Mobile Cancer Care Unit Manager for the Cathedral Day Unit at the trust said,

The patients and their relatives appeared to have a super time and were incredibly generous.
